Basic Navigation Skipper Course
With the PNB qualification you can sail boats up to 8 metres in length, up to a maximum of 5 miles from the coast.
You can sail both by day and by night.
This is the qualification that comes before the PER, although you do not need it if you want to go straight for the Recreational Boat Skipper qualification.
At Academia Náutica Alborán we prepare you to pass your qualification at the first attempt.

What is the PNB?
Basic Navigation Skipper.
It allows you to skipper boats up to a maximum length of 8 metres and all types of jet skis.
With this qualification you can sail by day and by night, up to a maximum distance of 5 miles (9 km) from a place of shelter.
If you want greater privileges, you can go straight to the PER course.
You do not need any previous qualification to obtain your PNB. You just have to pass the exam and complete the practical training.
These are the requirements to obtain the PNB
MEDICAL CHECK-UP
To obtain the PNB you must pass a simple medical check-up, similar to the one for renewing a driving licence.
EXAM
To obtain the PNB you must pass a theory exam. After preparing with us, you can register for the exam in Murcia or Málaga if you live in the area, or anywhere in Spain if you live elsewhere.
NAVIGATION PRACTICE
You will need 8 hours of navigation practice to obtain the PNB qualification.
You can do the practical training at our centre or anywhere else that suits you.
RADIO PRACTICE
Short Range Radio Operator Course
You must complete 4 hours of radio practice to obtain the PNB.

PNB theory course
You can take the PNB theory course with us from wherever you are: attend in person in our classrooms at Marina del Este or join via live streaming (video conference) and interact live with the teacher and other students.
PNB theory classes are on Wednesday afternoons from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. If you cannot attend or connect, they will be recorded in your virtual classroom, which you will have access to for 12 months from signing up for the course.

You can take part in this course from home, live.

Classes will be every Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm, starting on 8 October.

To obtain the PNB it is compulsory to complete the navigation and safety practice as well as the RADIO COMMUNICATIONS practice.

WHAT TYPE OF BOAT CAN I SAIL AND HOW FAR CAN I GO WITH THE PNB?
- Skippering motor recreational boats up to 8 metres in length, allowing navigation in the area between the coast and a line parallel to it, drawn 5 miles offshore (about 9 km)
- Skippering jet skis, within the specific navigation limits that apply to them, according to their technical characteristics.
- With the PNB you can skipper SAILING BOATS if you take the complementary practical SAILING course. You will be able to skipper sailing boats up to 8 metres in length.
If you only have the PNB theory ....
You need to complete the Navigation and Safety practice and the Radio practice to get your PNB.

SAILING PRACTICE
OPTIONAL
This course lasts 16 hours in total. You will learn the basics of the boat's rigging, sails and gear, and put into practice all kinds of knowledge and manoeuvres for sailing.
